Strategically situated in the heart of medieval Vitoria, in Plaza del Matxete where the rulers of Alava took their oaths, is a charming brasserie called Asador Matxete.

BBQ grilled meats and fish, stews and an assortment of salads, not to mention excellent homemade desserts and pastries make up its extensive menu where traditional and new Basque cuisines come together in perfect harmony.

Opened in 1998, with a large and comfortable terrace for enjoying its historical surroundings during the summer months, the restaurant has a main dining room, with stone vaulting, that accommodates up to 55 guests. The rest of the restaurant’s dining area is located in a second room for twenty diners and another eating area situated opposite the bar.
